HOMESCHOOL BILL 4/10/25 The
Illinois Freedom Caucus is calling out far left lawmakers for ignoring the
wishes of thousands of Illinois families by pushing a measure to force homeschoolers
to register with their local public schools. House
Bill 2827 has previously passed the Illinois House Education Policy Committee.
Wednesday, the Committee approved an amendment to the legislation; an
amendment that does not address the underlying concerns with the bill and was
dropped with little public notice. It is worth noting that the Democrats
are still playing games, substituting certain members out of the committee this
morning due to their concerns with the bill. The
Illinois Freedom Caucus issued the following statement. “The purpose of
this legislation is not to enhance education in any way. This legislation
is intended to punish people with whom the far left disagrees. The way
homeschool families have been treated by the Democrat majority has been
despicable. The denigration of homeschool families by the sponsor of this
bill and her advocates is cruel and completely unwarranted. Wednesday's
vote on the amendment shows that once again, the Democrats do not trust
parents, nor do they care about parental rights. This legislation is
wrong, and we urge our colleagues to reject this bill when it comes to the
House floor for a vote.” The Illinois Freedom Caucus is comprised of State
Representatives Chris Miller, chairman; Blaine Wilhour, vice-chairman; Adam
Niemerg; Brad Halbrook; Jed Davis; David Friess and State Senator Andrew
Chesney. The members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus are members of the
Illinois General Assembly who are advocating for limited government, lower
taxes and accountability, and integrity in government.
